Initial Situation

The client was actively developing a YouTube channel focused on fishing-related content. While the channel already had an established audience base, further brand growth and increased awareness required a significant acceleration in subscriber acquisition.

Challenges

  • Slow organic growth of the YouTube channel;
  • Insufficient number of new subscribers;
  • The need to expand reach among the target audience;
  • The need to build a proprietary audience for future website sales.

Goals

  • Acquire as many relevant new subscribers as possible in the shortest time;
  • Maintain a subscriber acquisition cost below UAH 10;
  • Increase brand awareness;
  • Drive additional traffic to the website.

Objective. The primary objective was to attract the maximum number of high-quality YouTube subscribers at the lowest possible cost.

Initial Analysis

Target Audience. Men aged 25–54 who are interested in:

  • Fishing;
  • Outdoor activities;
  • Fishing equipment and gear;
  • Hunting and tourism products.

Tools. Instead of traditional Video campaigns, we chose the newer Demand Gen campaign type.

  • Advantage. The campaign automatically optimizes for conversions (subscriptions) and serves ads in the most relevant placements: YouTube Home, Shorts, and related videos.
  • Optimization. “Maximize Conversions.” We provided the algorithm with a clear signal — our goal was specifically YouTube channel subscriptions.

Promotion Stages

Stage 1. Campaign Preparation and Setup

  • Setting up subscription tracking as a conversion action;
  • Audience segmentation;
  • Preparation of advertising creatives;
  • Launch of Demand Gen campaigns.

Stage 2. Optimization and Scaling

  • Analysis of campaign performance;
  • Gradual budget increases;
  • Bid optimization;
  • Audience adjustments.

The average campaign budget was approximately UAH 385 per day.

Stage 3. Content Strategy

For promotion, we used expert videos showcasing real fishing processes rather than traditional advertising content.

The main focus was on:

  • The practical value of the content;
  • Demonstrating the results of using the products;
  • High-quality video and audio production;
  • Building trust in the brand.

Stage 4. User Journey and Marketing Funnel Optimization

To increase conversion rates, direct YouTube subscription links with an automatic subscription confirmation parameter were used. This allowed us to reduce the user journey to a single target action.

To strengthen the results of Demand Gen campaigns, Performance Max campaigns focused on driving website sales were launched in parallel.

This approach enabled us to build a complete marketing funnel:

  • Demand Gen was responsible for attracting new audiences and increasing the number of subscribers;
  • YouTube content helped build trust in the brand;
  • Performance Max worked with a warmer audience and supported further conversions and sales.

As a result, the advertising campaigns contributed not only to audience growth on the YouTube channel but also to the achievement of the company’s broader business goals.

Results

From January 1 to May 12, 2026, the Demand Gen campaign delivered:

  • 14,650 conversions (YouTube channel subscriptions);
  • 18,510 clicks;
  • 1,735,161 impressions;
  • CPA of UAH 2.12 per subscriber;
  • Total advertising budget of UAH 31,114.

The average conversion rate reached 10.83%, demonstrating strong audience engagement with the channel’s content and confirming the effectiveness of the chosen promotion strategy.

YouTube Analytics data further confirmed the effectiveness of the advertising campaigns and the quality of the acquired audience.

During the campaign period, the channel received:

  • 13,908 active subscribers;
  • 14,365 new subscribers generated through advertising campaigns;
  • 17,022 total subscriptions;
  • 84.4% of all new subscriptions came directly from YouTube Advertising.

Business Impact

  • More than 14,000 new targeted subscribers;
  • Subscriber acquisition cost 4–5 times lower than the industry average;
  • Additional organic channel growth;
  • A new audience for future monetization;
  • Support for Performance Max campaigns through the development of the upper stage of the marketing funnel.

Conclusion

Demand Gen campaigns helped attract more than 14,000 targeted YouTube subscribers at an average cost of UAH 2.16 per subscriber. The success of the campaign was driven by high-quality expert content, proper conversion tracking setup, and campaign optimization focused on subscriptions. Additionally, the use of direct subscription links and the combination of Demand Gen with Performance Max not only accelerated channel growth but also created a foundation for future customer acquisition and sales.
